'Discover' .......a Collage/Assemblage Canvas

Hello Friends

Today I am sharing a project using the Little Birdie's newly launched Mixed Media Paste.

I hope you'll get inspired by my project using the Mixed Media paste.........a Collage/Assemblage work titled 'Discover' on a 8"x8" Canvas Board.......

I gave my canvas an uneven coat of Mixed media paste with a credit card. It primed the canvas for further layers and also created gorgeous texture. After it dried , I created more texture with various stencils and this time used the Mixed Media paste as a modelling paste.......
I created more texture by dry brushing with Mixed media paste after the stenciled surface dried .....

I have used only paper die cut Gears using a spellbinder die set  and resin embellishments made using silicon molds and resin to create the composition.

The sentiment Discover is a chipboard cutout. The stars, gears ,screws and bolts are all made of resin and silicon molds and the metal effect is using the acrylic metallic paints only. The die cuts have been layered where ever needed.

All the embellishments and die cuts have been primed with Mixed media paste and then colored. I covered the whole panel with Caribbean Teal tinted metallic paint and then sprayed with alcohol splash in Gold Rush, Mocha and Marigold, Sprayed with Alcohol blending solution to make the colors move.
all embellishments , die cuts etc have got a coat of Mixed media paste and then coated with antique gold acrylic color and teal and green metallic paints........

small glass beads added with silicon glue ..........the only piece of Real metal on this canvas is the small piece of metal chain, rest all is paints and alcohol splash to give a beautiful rust and metal effect........

Little Birdie's Mixed Media Paste review

Hi Friends

Today I am sharing with you a review of Little Birdie's newly launched Mixed Media Paste ......a unique 2-in-1 Gesso and Modelling paste which is a must have product for all Mixed media artists.

This heavy body paste can be used straight from the jar as texture paste/modelling paste and as Gesso to prepare your surface after diluting with water. The Mixed media paste is available presently in two variants- White and Slate.

You can use this paste to prepare the ground for layers of colors, sprays and textures in your mixed media work on paper, canvas or fabric. The paste can be spread easily with a palette knife or with a used credit card.......you can create visible textures with just working the paste with a palette knife

or through a stencil.........using the white texture paste on a gelli printed background Mandala Stencil from Itsy Bitsy

see the crisp and smooth raised impression through another stencil.....

My Personal experience using the Mixed Media paste :
  1. I want to congratulate Itsy Bitsy and the Little Birdie brand for introducing this one of a kind of product which is essential for any Mixed media artist. You can use this not only to prime your card stock, art Journal, Canvas, Wood,MDF, Chipboard and Metal  but can create interesting textures and relief.
  2. Easily spreadable using a Palette knife or brush.
  3. Can be diluted to desired consistency
  4. Thick and creamy texture, easy to work with.
  5. This has a lovely Matte finish unlike some other brands which have a glossy, almost plasti-cky finish.
  6. Sandable like Plaster Paste.....so it is possible to create interesting effects after you color and sand the top layer for a lovely distressed effect
  7. Tintable with acrylics , inks and sprays
  8. Non-Toxic and Acid free Formula
  9. Easy clean up with water
  10. Conforms to International standards of EN71 part 3 certification  and delivers the highest level of safety for the customer.
  11. Last but not the least......the PRICE......Rs 250/- only for a 400 gms Jar of Mixed Media paste !!!    what more do you need friends ....so play, experiment and indulge your artistic soul !!
And now my project using the Mixed Media Paste is on the Itsy Bitsy blog here!!

I used a silicon mat to use as a Gelli plate , added colors and using a paint brayer spread the paints and took prints on the envelopes and the recycled gift box ( actually the box is the kraft box in which the paints came from DecoArt) ........

After many layers of paints using various stencils, I used Archival Inks and various stamps to create the  designs.........

Second envelope.........stamping with neon paints and some plastic lids/ stamps and archival inks also some Washi tape......

Stenciling with neon paints and doodling with Posca pens on the gift box........

DecoArt Crackle paint and some paint splatters.....
To make the focal image to pop more, I stamped it on a separate piece of card stock colored with the neon paints randomly and stamped the image on it, fussy cut it and glued on the stamped image on the envelopes, Did this with the butterfly/bird  and flower images.......

I do hope you liked these !!
